In summer 2023, Mercedes-Benz began unveiling details of the much-anticipated W214 E Class model, marking a significant moment for coachbuilders.

When the market launch was announced for October 2023, excitement among industry professionals reached new heights as they anticipated the next chapter of innovation.

The W213 model had been a landmark success for Quinn Hearse and Limousine. First introduced to the market in 2017, the 5-door hearse became their best-selling vehicle.

Its versatility resonated deeply with funeral directors, particularly in Ireland, where the availability of both 3-door and 5-door versions allowed seamless adaptation to urban and rural needs. A cosmetic refresh in 2020, coupled with the adoption of MHEV engines for improved fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness, only enhanced its appeal.

By late 2023, anticipation for the W214 was palpable. Plans were swiftly initiated for design and production, focusing on the integration of advanced ADAS technology, including adaptive cruise control and lane assist. These features required precise calibration of millimetre-wave radar for the extended wheelbase. Having previously incorporated similar systems in high-spec Passat hearses, the Quinn team was well-prepared to embrace this challenge.

The trust funeral directors placed in Quinn’s was evident in the surge of pre-orders, even before seeing the final product. This confidence stemmed from Quinn’s reputation for exceptional build quality and enduring support.

By early 2024, Quinn’s had received their first W214 model and immediately began production. The aim wasn’t just to create a vehicle but to refine a production line capable of meeting demand. By September, both 3-door and 5-door versions had been fully tested, approved, and delivered to early adopters, including Cathal McAnulty, Warrenpoint, who proudly received the first model.

Cathal’s vehicle, an AMG Premium Plus edition, is packed with features: MBUX high-resolution displays, massaging seats, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, self-parking, a 360° camera, and more. The hearse also boasts high- and low-level LED lighting, a slide-out underdeck drawer, and the original Mercedes rear seats, all finished with ceramic paint protection.

These vehicles, now seen across the UK and Ireland, represent Quinn’s finest work to date, setting a new standard for funeral transport. For more information click here
