Wilcox Limousines has delivered a new Mercedes E220d hearse to Murty O’Neill & Sons Funeral Directors, based in Johnstownbridge, Enfield, County Meath in Ireland.

The family-run firm, known locally for its longstanding service, has added the E220d to its growing fleet.

Wilcox sales manager Neil Carruthers, who oversees Irish accounts, completed the handover and described it as “personally meaningful.” Neil’s father worked in the Wilcox Trim Shop for 28 years, and Neil recalls visiting the factory regularly as a child.

“There was always a hearse or limo parked on our driveway,” he said. “It feels full circle to now be supplying them to clients in Ireland. My dad would have loved that.”

One memorable incident from Neil’s childhood involved his dad being carjacked in a hearse while collecting it from Holyhead, an event that ended with Neil driving him to Liverpool to complete the journey.

“Hopefully that never happens to me,” he added, “but I do enjoy my time in Ireland far more safely now, usually with a pint of Guinness and a trip to the races when I can.”

Neil joined Wilcox three years ago and has been working with Murty O’Neill & Sons since their first meeting 18 months ago.

The relationship began with a visit to Wilcox’s Wigan factory and developed further at the Irish Funeral Trade Exhibition in Dublin. Neil often stays at the Hamlet Court Hotel, operated by the O’Neill family and located next to their funeral home.

Wilcox thanked John and Declan O’Neill for their continued support, adding that the E220d hearse reflected both companies’ “commitment to quality service and long-term reliability.”
